Named for Richard Henry Dana
who wrote Two Years Before the Mast, Dana
Point real estate stretches along a seven mile
coast and somewhat inland into a the gently
rolling hills.
Many homes have a view and all homes in
Dana Point enjoy the salty ocean breezes and the
sound of the foghorn in the Harbor.
The earliest housing development in Dana Point centered
around a hotel and bar that never was completed
but some of the construction can still be seen
from the Harbor.
The original plan for Dana Point
Real Estate was an area of Spanish style homes and
businesses with streets named after lanterns. Today, the
town has many lantern streets including Golden Lantern,
Ruby Lantern, Blue Lantern, to name a few.
The developer was wiped out in the crash of 1929
and the Dana Point real estate plan never got completed.
Today Dana point is somewhat of a
stitched-together city made up by annexing parts of
nearby cities such as Capistrano Beach and Laguna Niguel.
The Dana Point real estate market includes some
very elegant luxury homes, condominiums and town homes
with ocean and harbor views as well as many
single-family homes with and without views.
For those interested in duplexes, triplexes and
multifamily homes, Dana Point has much to offer.
Dana Point Harbor, originally used
as all Orange County Harbors were, as a place where drug
smugglers could come and go under the cover of fog, is
now a thriving shopping, sailing and dining destination
with a couple of Yacht Clubs.
A replica of the Pilgrim, Richard Dana’s ship
is in the Harbor and takes visitors on cruises from time
to time. The
Harbor is a magnet for residents and visitors alike and
adds to the Dana Point real estate values.
